IU at UNESCO’s International Day of Education January 2025: AI, Ethics, and the Future of Learning
IU International University of Applied Sciences was honoured to contribute to the UNESCO International Day of Education 2025, a global event focused on this year’s theme: “Artificial Intelligence and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation.”
Representing IU, Prof. Dr. Thorsten Fröhlich and Konstantinos Bardis participated in high-level discussions with international experts. As a panellist, Prof. Dr. Fröhlich tackled one of the most pressing questions in today’s digital learning landscape:
“How do we balance AI automation with human judgment in education?”
Key takeaways from IU’s contribution:
✔️ AI integration in education must be transparent, accountable, and ethically guided.
✔️ Avoiding the “black box” effect of AI systems is vital to ensure trust, fairness, and explainability.
✔️ AI should be a tool that amplifies learning, not a substitute for human decision-making.
IU reaffirmed its commitment to using AI responsibly, leveraging its power to enhance teaching and learning while preserving human agency. Our collaboration with UNESCO reflects IU’s dedication to shaping a future where educational technologies empower rather than replace human potential.
